What is Shared Accommodation?

Share Accommodation gives you the opportunity to own a second home in La Piedra, Dominican Republic—while supporting the local community.
Your home is managed by Guanin and available to you anytime. When you’re not using it, it may host volunteers or guests doing community work. We take care of all maintenance, utilities, and cleaning.
With contributions starting around $35,000, your home is considered a tax-deductible donation in the U.S.—helping you invest in both your family and a meaningful cause.
Note: You can invite friends and family to stay, but the home can’t be rented or sold.

Is Shared Accommodation an investment?

No. Shared Accommodation is not a financial investment or property asset. It’s a philanthropic commitment that supports job creation in La Piedra while giving you access to a well-maintained home in the Dominican Republic.
Your contribution helps fund local employment and community development—not generate profit.

Question 3

What are Fixed and Floating Weeks?

When you join the Shared Accommodation program, you can choose how your time in the home is scheduled:
 • Fixed Weeks: You reserve specific dates each year in advance. These weeks are guaranteed for you and help Guanin plan when the home is available for volunteers or visitors.
 • Floating Weeks: You choose your travel dates more flexibly throughout the year, based on availability. This option works best if your vacation time changes year to year.
Tip: If your schedule varies, floating weeks offer flexibility—but plan ahead to secure your preferred dates.

Question 4

Are There Maintenance Fees? What Do They Cover?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Your $300/year Share Accommodation membership helps fund local jobs and covers all property upkeep. This includes cleaning, maintenance, electricity, water, internet, insurance, and taxes.

Question 5

Can I Sell, Rent, or Transfer My Share Accommodation?

Accepted Answer

No. Your home is considered a donation, not a property asset. It cannot be sold, rented, or transferred to a third party. The property is legally registered under Guanin’s name.

Question 6

Can I Leave It to Family or Friends?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can bequeath your right to use the home to your next of kin or someone you trust. While you can’t sell or give it away during your lifetime, you can pass it on as part of your estate.

Question 7

Who Manages the Legal Process? Do I Sign a Contract?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All legal transfers and contracts are managed by Centro Cultural Guanin, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) organization operating in the Dominican Republic, U.S.A., Canada, Switzerland, and Germany.
 Once finalized, you’ll receive a Certificate of Possession confirming your access and usage rights.

Question 8

How Do I Make My Donation?

Accepted Answer

You can send your home donation via check or bank transfer to Guanin’s U.S. account. Once everything is processed, you’ll receive a Tax Write-Off Certificate for your records and tax filing.
